COSTUME TRENDS

It's a bit fun to see trends (if you can call it that) in the online costume communities. When I started way back then, "everyone" did Italian Renaissance, Venetian dresses in particular. Then came a period of movie recreations, or rather they overlapped, as there were several fantastic costume movies in the 90s and early 2000s. "Bram Stoker's Dracula", "Moulin Rouge" and "Titanic" comes to mind, which kinda resulted in lots of general Victorian costumes too.

Now most people seems to do Rococo garbs, which is delightfully fun - so many goodies. With some exceptions, I think it's a particularly flattering period for females.

It makes me wonder what the next "big thing" will be. One area that has been sadly neglected is the Baroque fashion. But whereas there are some gorgeous examples, this is (at least in my opinion) a less flattering period. I remember someone in my LJ friend list did a research on Baroque style, and she also asked why it is such a neglected field in online communities. Basically I think the period lack the girly, lush touch, which most of the styles above are full of. Still, there are some outstanding goodies, so it would be fun if at least someone tried it out.

What do YOU think the next big costume thing will be?

baroque, victorian, costume
