The time had come to go home, go finally back to Narnia after a long, long two years away.  But as much as Peter had been waiting for this day, now that it was here, he was almost ready to put it off, to wait until the end of the summer and see where the moving island would take them all.

"Yeah. I don't think so," Jamie said crossing his arms and glaring. "You realize that with you leaving I'm the last student stickbug? I can't do this on my own."

"Lucky for you, you have more than one of you," Peter tried, giving Jamie a grin.

"Not the same," Jamie grumped. "I can't rig a cheesecake to explode on its own."

[once_a_king]

Peter shook his head. "We should have taken more chances while we were here," he said. "Guess we'll have to have Stickbug Reunions some time and make trouble elsewhere."

Aravis ducked in, looking almost hesitant, if were to really study her for such an emotion. "You're going home, then?"

"Been away long enough," Peter agreed, smiling a welcome for Aravis. "Think you'll manage without me?" he teased.

Aravis grinned, pretending to think about it. "It will, of course, be difficult. I'll have to uphold the standard from our world in your absence."

"Which will be difficult indeed," Peter agreed. "It's a good thing you're - ah - feisty." He watched her carefully, a smile lurking in his eyes and ready to dodge if she decided to hit him.

Even after a call letting him know it was time to say goodbye, this was still odd on several levels. Not least of which was that he was no longer used to this part of campus; Tyler almost got lost trying to find the senior cabin.

He tentatively tapped on the alcove wall. "You're really going home, huh?"

"So it seems," Peter said quietly. "Been ready to for two years, and now I rather want to stay."

[tyler_back]

"It would have been that way no matter how long you stayed," Tyler predicted. "If today's the day, then ... you gotta go with that."

He was sorry, though. Sorry he'd lost his way for so long, sorry he'd come back so close to the end.

"Doesn't mean I won't hold you to that promise of a visit," Peter said with a smile. "And, well, at some point, the wedding."

Zuko watched the packing a bit warily and there may have been some jealousy there. "Leaving?"

"Unless the same thing that happened to you occurs," Peter said, nodding at Zuko.

Zuko made a face. "It tends to do annoying things like that."

He considered Zuko for a moment. "You're welcome to come back to Narnia. Perhaps leaving and coming back would allow you to leave again."

On his way back to his own alcove after work, Bridge can't help but notice the signs of the dreaded packing-up-to-leave.

"Leaving already?" he asks with a frown.

"It's been two years," Peter pointed out. "That's not quite already." He smiled a bit sadly though. "Wishing I didn't have to."

[bridge_carson]

"Well, I meant in terms of summer's barely even started," Bridge says. "Seems like everyone I know is leaving before I do." He can't help but smile a bit himself, though, when he catches sight of the shield on the bed, remembering the first time he'd seen it in, er... action. Of a sort.

"There didn't seem to be much point in staying longer once Graduation came by," Peter explained. "I flatter myself my country needs me." He followed Bridge's gaze to the shield and grinned. "Seems an age since I first used that here."
