The time had come to go home, go finally back to Narnia after a long, long two years away.  But as much as Peter had been waiting for this day, now that it was here, he was almost ready to put it off, to wait until the end of the summer and see where the moving island would take them all.

Aravis ducked in, looking almost hesitant, if were to really study her for such an emotion. "You're going home, then?"

"Been away long enough," Peter agreed, smiling a welcome for Aravis. "Think you'll manage without me?" he teased.

Aravis grinned, pretending to think about it. "It will, of course, be difficult. I'll have to uphold the standard from our world in your absence."

[once_a_king]

"Which will be difficult indeed," Peter agreed. "It's a good thing you're - ah - feisty." He watched her carefully, a smile lurking in his eyes and ready to dodge if she decided to hit him.

"Feisty?" she repeated, just raising a brow and trying not to laugh. "I'm sure I don't know what you mean. I'm the perfect image of a highborn, well-raised lady."

Peter looked at her for a moment then smiled. "Yes. You are."

Aravis smiled back, eyeing him. "Will you be able to stay in contact?"

[once_a_king]

"I hope to," he said. "I hope to. Willow's coming with me - I doubt she'd appreciate being stuck in our country without any access to this world."

"Congratulations, by the way," she said, sincerely. "You're very lucky, and I wish you both the very best."

And it might kill her to say this, but, "And I'm certain Willow will make a wonderful queen." Which really just confirmed that this Peter was definitely not a past echo of the one she knew.

Peter's lips quirked as she said that. "Thank you, Aravis. I think she will too."

She nodded, tilting her head and considering her words carefully. "In...hmm, not quite ten years, you should make sure to visit Archenland and meet, um, your version of me. And Cor, again. Though I suggest not telling that Aravis that you met her in another time. She won't believe you and she'd probably think you mad."

He ducked his head, laughing. "That would certainly be a change."

"She'd be even more even-tempered than I am now," Aravis said, completely deadpan.

[once_a_king]

Peter couldn't help bowing to Aravis. "My Lady, I can't imagine that."

[notqueenyet]

"Give it a few years and you won't," she said, smiling and dipping low in a Calormene curtsy. "Your Majesty," she added after a moment's pause.

"I'm glad I've met you here," Peter said sincerely, reaching to touch her shoulder. "I've enjoyed knowing you now, and I'm sure I'll enjoy knowing you in ten years."
