Yeah I usually doubt claims of "difficulty" for actresses because of sexist double standards, but from the interviews I have read (including this one) Winger sounds like she might actually be high-maintenance to the point of being a nuisance.

And she's talented, but I can't imagine her in this role - Davis on the other hand was terrific.

Debra is different. She has always been an asshole and a terrible person in general.

I didnt really have a strong opinion on Debra Winger before but her view of this film and Davis's performance is wrong wrong wrong so now I assume all her opinions are wrong lol.

Oh, she definitely has some shitty views. This is her take on #MeToo:

"In some ways, it's pulled ridiculously too far. Part of it is that I'm the mother of three young white males, so I'm looking at things that they're experiencing, and things that my girlfriends of all different backgrounds are experiencing [and] it hasn't quite found its steady point yet where there's room for everybody."

It sounds like she regretted quitting as soon as she watched the movie and Geena Davis being great in it.

Geena was perfect in the role so it worked out (probably one of the rare films where I never think about the 'what if?' with the original casting) Her and Lori Petty had great chemistry and I believed them as sisters.

Anyway. Let me rewatch it.

I played sports in high school and every team had the Madonna/Rosie friendship. Always so relatable

"In regards for the finished film, Winger says, "as entertaining as [the finished film] was, you don't walk away going "Wow, those women did that." You kind of go "Is that true?"'"

Actually, I always end the film with the feeling of "wow, those women did that". It's one of my favorite movies.

I need more female sports films.

A really great scene was when a ball was hit towards a group of black women, and Geena Davis' character was like "throw it here" and the woman zinged it at her and they kind of looked at each other.

I thought it was an acknowledgment that there were black women just as talented but not allowed to join for racist reasons... kinda would be awk to have the all white league without mentioning why.

I love this movie, it made me cry when I saw it in the theaters. I loved Geena Davis as Dottie and Madonna was really good as Mae.

omg when Tom Hanks had to tell Bettie that her husband was dead and all of the women looked so tense because they didn't know who he was walking towards :( :( :(

I also cry when the bratty little kid shows up at the museum at the very end and he's grown up talking about how his mom died. Uuuugh I need to re-watch this movie.

Definitely. It seems like the movie inferred she didn’t have the best home life and husband, but Stillwell and baseball were things she did for herself and loved and he was there acknowledging that. Ugh. It’s such a good movie.
