We are just into the 2nd week of spring. I love this time of year as the weather is usually perfect...not too hot and not too cold, and yet the nights have still got a nice coolness to them which makes sleeping easy. Brisbane Open House continued with a ride along the river until we came to Riverside, which was our stop to hop back onto dry land and take the short walk to the seat of Queensland's government, Parliament House. This weekend was a busy one as we ventured into the city for Brisbane Open House. This year was the first time this event has taken place and 20 venues were on offer to visit for free. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best, with cloud and rain being the dominant feature. But it didn't stop us getting around 6 buildings.

I always remember that winter in the UK seemed to be devoid of colour and warm sunshine. The climate doesn't allow the kind of sub-tropical growth that we are fortunate to experience here in Brisbane. Every August, for 10-days, Brisbane holds the Royal Queensland Show. This institution has been going since 1876 and was originally called the Brisbane Exhibition, and today is referred to simply as 'The Ekka'.
