After the storms of last Saturday. I was relieved to see Sunday dawn clear and sunny. You'd never have believed that such a change could have occurred after torrential rain, flash-flooding and hail. Much of my life has been spent in Europe, having been born and bred in the UK. I was born and lived in a village, surrounded by countryside and a large wooded area. I'm always on the lookout for things that I want to photograph, and as I put out the rubbish this morning I spotted this little critter scrambling along a leaf. I dashed in to get my camera, hoping it would be in the same spot. When I got back, it had moved a bit and was partially hidden. It might be the last day of summer but it has been a glorious day, clear and sunny, humidity normal and about 33C. I can't imagine tomorrow, the start of Autumn, being that much different! Since the arrival of the rains we seem to have had an unusually higher number of spiders about the place. Sure, we always have spiders outside, but this is getting silly now. I know that most are totally harmless and I certainly don't run screaming from them, but I really don't enjoy constantly walking into their webs. Having their silky nets  ( Read more... )

The area known as Kakadu National Park was formed 2500 million years ago, and is a living cultural landscape. The Aboriginal people have lived here for about 40,000 years, and is the largest terrestrial national park in Australia. It's the same size as Slovenia or nearly half the size of Switzerland.
