There's nothing like tracking down bad code left by a previous developer, fixing it, and going from around 4,800 extraneous database queries to generate something to around 95 useful ones.
I like seeing improvements measured in orders of magnitude. :)

I now grok Java class loaders, if not in fullness, in a reasonable facsimile thereof. It took me about a day and a half of study and work, and exactly 150 test runs before I got everything quite right.
