A post deferred.

I had every intention of making an LJ post on my birthday, a week ago, but then life happened, threw me off my groove, and I'm just now catching back up.

The birthday gathering on Sunday was a lot of fun, and I'm very thankful for everyone who was able to attend (and for those of you who wanted to, but couldn't). The best part of any birthday is being able to share it with friends, and I definitely got that. In addition, the_z is the coolest wife ever for hooking me up with a Weighted Companion Cake. Between this and last year's Pai cake, she's been surprising me with awesomeness.

My actual birthday (Tuesday) sucked, but that was mostly due to work-related reasons. In the end, the whole day was a non-event, but at least I had Sunday. :) Wednesday had potential for suckage thanks to an unrelated work issue, but Z and I were able to salvage the evening and have a pleasant dinner and night out. While shopping, we picked up a copy of the PSP port of Final Fantasy Tactics, conveniently sold at half-price by Best Buy for our shopping pleasure. Of course, we didn't have a PSP, but this was a minor issue that we rectified on Friday. On a side note, I must say that it's an impressive little device (although the battery power is a little underwhelming), and while I still prefer the DS, the PSP is a welcome addition to our gaming console collection (which seems to grow every time a Final Fantasy game is released for a different console).

Saturday saw kei_neko joining my bi-weekly Shadowrun game, an awesome BBQ dinner at a relatively new restaurant in downtown Lee's Summit, and the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender. I don't normally like to engage in too much fanboyish hyperbole, but the finale was OMFGAwesome. I felt that the resolution wrapped up most of the story threads in a very satisfying manner, but left just enough avenues open to do another series later if they feel so inclined.

And while I'm in hyperbole mode, The Dark Knight was also OMFGAwesome. Ledger nailed the role of the Joker; it's just a shame that he'll never be able to do it again. This summer has been a good one for superhero films, especially with TDK and Iron Man. Neither film can get onto DVD fast enough for my taste; I want to be able to watch both of them again and again.
