So this morning I went to follow through with my train tickets and the plan I figured out last night, but Toshi reminded me about the ferry going to the exact same place. Today (yesterday?) I went to Kobe to see the Luminarie. It's a commemmorative illumination for the earthquake of 1995, but was across between a memorial of what was lost and a celebration of what Kobe has turned into since (judging by the atmosphere, and the spirit of most people there).
