I got news that my uncle Jack died, quite possibly making this the worst month ever. He wasn't actually a relative but a very old family friend, having lived next door to my nan and grandad for years. Why do I always end up with timetable clashes?

Tomorrow I have a lecture on suffragette poetry from 10-1, and then one on the rise of the Nazis from 1-3. The Nazi lecture is on the top floor of a different building, which takes at least five minutes to get to if I'm running, and is taught by a tutor who makes a point of humiliating latecomers.

Finally, I'm back at uni! It's been a dull couple of days, full of all the induction stuff and the inevitable confusion that comes with many forms. We had to register for our modules again because the computers lost all our information. Why we couldn't just fill out the usual sheet in the first place, I don't know. I ventured over to Liverpool yesterday to buy yet more birthday books. This time I ended up with: Sophie's Choice, The Reader, The Book of Unholy Mischief, Lancaster and York: The Wars of the Roses, Consolation, Glass of Time and The Children of Húrin.

Poor Zeb! He got soaked by a neighbour (with very poor coordination) watering their flowers. He ran off down the street yowling... I'm guessing that's the last I'm seeing of him for a few hours.

I really wish the landlord would give us the keys to the windows. It's like a sauna in here.
