As October comes to a close, I’ve made little progress on my reading challenge. No surprise given the time commitment of actual work, volunteer hours, and the burning need to do some crafting and sewing.

To date I have read 30 books and 23 graphic novels or comic trade paperbacks. Not terrible and I still have two months to knock a few more titles ( Read more... )

Lots going on here.  Not sure if you had heard about GeekGirlCon happening in Seattle in October, but it is going to be great, awesome even -- and I have been volunteering many, many hours as the staff copywriter and sometimes editor.  It has drastically cut into my reading time for both comics and novels. Well, I feel like I am making good progress on the reading challenges.  I am about to start A Game of Thrones on the commute home. jgstewart says it goes by quick, but the 807 pages are intimidating. If my math is even close to correct (note: I am no math whiz) then I should be able to finish this in 27 bus rides provided I read 30 pages each trip. ( Read more... )

I propose that I will not purchase more books in 2011, except the following permitted indulgences:

• Two new cookbooks (TBD, probably leaning toward vegetarian eating -- gasp!)
• Bloodshot by Cherie Priest
• Isle of Blood by Rick Yancey
• Heartless by Gail Carrigher
  
• A few, maybe three or four, Girl Genius graphic novels

Ok, well this pledge is a bit of a farce at the moment.  I went on a  small book buying spree in July and August.  I'm back on track now. I HOPE.  Once I get in the shopping flow, I have trouble stopping ( Read more... )

I've been diligently chipping away at the bedside stack of books. Knocking down comic after comic and even some books without pictures (mostly while on the bus). So far things have been ok.  I've not panicked or had a fit about my self-inflicted limitation on book buying.  I've had some text books to buy and I'm totally digging my new dictionary ( Read more... )

Its not a resolution. I prefer to think about it as more of a challenge or even an experiment because who knows what effects this will have on my psyche.  I am going to see how long I can last, how far into the year I can go without purchasing a new book for leisure reading.

I've been feeling like there is a lot going for me lately in the realms of books, comics, tv and movies.  So much to do that I'm having trouble keeping up. Eek!
