I've been diligently chipping away at the bedside stack of books. Knocking down comic after comic and even some books without pictures (mostly while on the bus). So far things have been ok. I've not panicked or had a fit about my self-inflicted limitation on book buying. I've had some text books to buy and I'm totally digging my new dictionary and thesaurus purchased for my office.
Tools used to curb my bibliophile cravings:
- I started an account over at goodreads with a shelf for my 2009 reading experiment.
- I've been adding things I'd like to purchase at some point to my Amazon wishlists.
- I have a book written list in my planner.
Every little trick helps break the purchasing pattern.
But still no library card.
The ironic part to all this good work is that my credit card bill has not been sufficiently smaller. I need to work on this next. Turns out for me it is not a matter of book spending in particular, its just spending. there have been a lot of cool clothes arriving at my place recently. Then, I noticed today that my eating habits are slipping, transgressing into all those fat and sugar laden places like pepperoni pizza and candy bars.
Could it be that I have to binge on something at all times? If not food, then books? If not books, then clothing or DVDs? Further inspection is needed on how to fix this.
