David Eddings has died.

I read his work voraciously when I was younger, and was entranced by The Belgariad and The Mallorean. Haven't read those books in ages - time to hit up Amazon and refresh my memory, I think.

Always sad to lose a good writer.

I found a fascinating article on Scientific American on why we cannot imagine death, and why even the strongest atheists have trouble holding on to the idea that after death there is "nothing." The article looks at the idea from a psychological point of view as well as an evolutionary one, and it's really quite interesting.
