It manifests itself in a few categories: being a provider, comparing myself to "peers," comparing myself and where I am in life now as compared to where I thought I would be in life by now.

I aspire to retire into a community of fellow geeks. Folks that have/had STEM backgrounds. People where a good fraction like science fiction, read books, run Linux, have solar power, EVs.

Hippy geeks would be best. Liberal, nature-loving, garden growing geeks!

as I get closer to retirement

Yesterday, was in the mood to read some more science fiction books. The last time I went to my local bookstore, they did not have the ones I wanted on their store shelves. So, I instead ordered two selections from their website, and requested they be shipped to my home.

I notice a lot, lately, how little buying power a dollar has.

When I had bought my 1st new car, back in 1993, super unleaded (91 octane) was almost exactly US$1/gallon.

My salary was $30k/year at the time.

A US$20 bill would let me fill up my car from empty tank to full, for US$15.
