I aspire to retire into a community of fellow geeks. Folks that have/had STEM backgrounds. People where a good fraction like science fiction, read books, run Linux, have solar power, EVs.

Hippy geeks would be best. Liberal, nature-loving, garden growing geeks!

Earlier in the month, did not want to go to a social event.

But, over the wkend before New Year's Eve, mood lightened. Still had suffered through most of December, but since things hadn't gotten worse, was actually feeling okay emotionally. (Became comfortably numb?)

Was watching a documentary online over the weekend.

As part of the documentary, the host of the show went to a pride event for the first time. Liked seeing the acceptance and synergy between the host and those they talked with at the event, and their happiness to find like minds and acceptance.

I think the 1st time I really wanted a personal computer of my own was in high school, in the 80s.

A classmate/friend, RLV, had a Commodore 64, and I went to their house to hang out, and play on it with them.

In the current Debian Stable Distribution, the version of Nethack pays tribute to an author, Terry Pratchett, in spellbooks.

Went to SCALE yesterday. 1st time attendee, though I've tried to be able to attend for years. Thanks to being a SGVLUG member, was half-price. Attended talks on Community, Mentoring, and the Linux kernel. Got to chat up fellow SGVLUG members, and ran into some previous co-workers from WBOL.
