I drew off a bit of my italian merlot with my "wine thief" today to check the clarity. Held up to natural light, it looks grand; clear and deep garnet red. I tasted a tiny bit of it and while it could stand a bit more aging, the potential is truly there. Nothing catastrophic in the last week has happened and that is a good thing. I was getting rather tired of that. Dan continues to make progress, his strength is building back up again. I have not update in about a week, so you can guess that nothing catastrophic is going on in my life. Dan has started his physiotherapy, and I can see him getting stronger even if he can't. He actually goes up and down stairs now - Not often, and it leaves him winded, but getting better ( Read more... )

I went to work on Sunday. I mean I tried to go to work on Sunday. I got there, and was signing in, and the best way I could describe how I felt was "shell shocked". I don't know what I would have done, then the manager came by an asked why I was there. Apparently I wasn't scheduled until today ( Read more... )

I phoned Dan this morning, as is my custom before I leave to see if there is anything in particular that he needs. He was sitting in the hospital fully dressed (though he had to have a rest because the effort tired him out.). This means a) he is feeling much better, and b) the Drs have come to a consensus: Dan will be officially released ( Read more... )

The good news is that Dan's embolism was a small one and he will have no lasting effects. The heparin IV has been discontinued and the warfarin is being reduced. Opinions differ as to when he will be released - one dr feels that Dan can go home to continue his recovery, and the other wants to keep him in until next week. Dan's potassium took a nose dive and they will not discharge him until they get back to normal. He is getting it now orally and IV. As it will take some time for the potassium to build back up, he will likely be in hospital until sometime next week. I wonder how long it has been down ( Read more... )

Dan is responding to the treatment, and is looking better all the time. He is particularly happy about being able to breath deeply again. He still doesn't have much energy, and spends a good portion of the time sleeping. He is also beginning to display the beginnings of an appetite, or at least as much of an appetite as one can have this ( Read more... )
