So it’s been a week since leaving the Library. I’m getting out of bed a bit later (5:30 vs 4:30), eating more than is necessary, sitting around with the pup, and doing those small things I’ve written about. Three weeks, now, until retirement. Apparently we’ve had a good response to our job posting for my replacement, but the Library hasn’t acted on any yet. I have joked about the description of my ‘duties,’ that I wouldn’t bid on the position due to its complexity. But that is because the job grew with and around me over the years, so what I made it ( Read more... )

We had an air conditioner drip pan in the attic overflow at work. The drain lines get plugged with yuck and there are no failsafes (floats or sensors) to shut the system down before things get messy. So the water came through the ceiling of our program room and wet panels hit the floor amongst the puddles. After cleaning was done, the pan emptied ( Read more... )

My 25th anniversary working at the library just slipped silently by. Today I told our Director of my plans to retire this year: target date July 31. So many things to consider still.

I’ve decided to start cleaning out my things from work, in anticipation of actually having the wherewithal to leave :o) I’ve got a closet of ‘stuff’ as well as boxes of ‘things’ to take care of. Yep, I’m a pack rat bunny, and I’ve accumulated a lot of items since 1999 ( Read more... )

We had a sliding closet door here that for years has been difficult to operate. I assumed it was due to stuff against it, inside, or maybe it was just not made well. Today I went to look at it more closely, and, other than two screws being loose on one of the hangers and one loose on the floor guide, nothing else seemed wrong. Yet it still dragged ( Read more... )
