For the first time since 2012 I couldn't get a Sherlock calendar from amazon.com this year. There was one on the UK site but they won't post to Australia, and it wasn't available on the Australian site. Spent the evening last night working on a jigsaw puzzle - one of the guys at work wished me a safe NYE and I told him the worst danger I was facing was a paper cut. At least I saw in the new  year, with a few more hours afterwards.

I finally got to see Star Trek: Beyond tonight and I'm pretty happy with it - it's about as close to the original as you could get. Loved the character interaction, and the whole plotline. Sure it wasn't perfect but it was good enough. I'm wishing now that I'd seen it at the cinema, for the large screen effect.

Went to see Dr. Strange today. No spoilers, but I will say that the special effects were amazing (saw it in VMax, 3D) and BC was actually really good in the role. It's only taken me eighteen months but yesterday I finally hooked up my DVD player to my sound system. Still can't get the telly running through the receiver but that's a problem for another day. I managed to twist my ankle last night in the silliest of ways. I had been sitting with my left foot tucked up underneath me until it went numb, and when I got up to walk my toe caught on the carpet and my foot twisted under. I put my weight down before I'd realised what had happened, and as a result I have a rather large egg on my ankle. Oddly ( Read more... )

One of my work colleagues is off to Europe on Sunday, flying to Budapest then cruising to Amsterdam, basically doing the cruise I want to do in 2017 only in reverse. At the end of the cruise he's spending time in Paris before flying home. And now I have itchy feet, and I want to be going NOW not in two years' time! Next year is New Zealand again ( Read more... )
