Today marks the summer solstice, the official start of summer. Unofficially, summer usually seems to start earlier in these parts, but we were blessed with some remarkably mild and pleasant days in June. Well, maybe not. We didn't have monsoon rains, but we did have thunder and lightning and a real gully washer. Our street flooded for about the fourth time ever in all the years I've been here. As forecast, temperatures have plummeted, and

WE HAZ SNOW!

Okay, we had snow--and may have it again, overnight. If it sticks at all we might get up to two inches. Not a great deal but our first snow, not just of the year but of the season. So we may have some winter after all.

Rain today, and it was rather gloomy when I got up. Looks like it might be clearing or lighening up a little now. I don't mind. It's perfect working weather and that's what I was doing and will be doing again. I feel a little regretful for those for whom this is a true weekend. They'd probably like nicer weather. While Hurricane Irene didn't completely put out the fire in the Dismal Swamp, said fire is now "about 90% contained," which is certainly an improvement.

Today's weather was nice enough to turn off the A/C, which just passed its annual inspection yesterday, and open the windows. We'll see how long it lasts.
