A New Month

I feel like I should post something just to get things off to an auspicious start.

It's still hot, no question, but it's not that terrible, body- and soul-draining heat that we had been having. Dare I hope August will be, gasp, normal?

I fell down, outside, on concrete, about three weeks ago. Banged my knees up something fierce. Also bruised my left big toe somehow. It was swollen for a day or two. That's fine now. My knees were scabbed like I was back in grade school. Very undignified at my age. Very painful at first, but last week it got to the stage where the skin had healed enough to feel itchy under the scab. I have resisted, mightily, picking at the scabs, but they're starting to come off now on their own. Much that was on the left knee is gone. Another week and you probably won't be able to tell it was damaged. The right knee was worse and will probably take a little longer, but it is on the mend.

"Falling Skies" has only one episode left to go this season. Oh, it's a 2-hour final episode, so it might be two 1-hour episodes as some shows do, but I have hopes that it will be one, grand mega-episode. When it began I was satisfied enough to keep on watching, but I didn't feel enamored of the show. I'm still not obsessive, but I've gotten sufficiently intrigued. I guess I'm more attached to it than anything else I'm watching right now. (Yes, even "The Closer," in its final season.) I can tell my husband is intrigued as well because not only does he watch it, but he's theorizing about it. One of the things we both agreed is that the skitters might not be the top dogs of the invading forces. This penultimate episode we got a glimpse of others who might confirm that theory--and a discovery via autopsy that might confirm it in spades and reveal something we didn't theorize. Also, Blair Brown guested, and she was not at all Sharpe. (Shout out to "Fringe" fans.)

I'm going to try to post more here (rather than just thing about posting). Still not sure if that's a promise or a dire warning.
