I Did Something Stupid/Good

Anyone know of the now in syndication TV show called Farscape? Simple premise: a human in a one man module tries to use the atmosphere of Earth to accelerate and bounce off of it. A wormhole opens up and he's catapulted through space to a distant galaxy. There's a ship, a living ship, bio-mechanical. Her name is Moya. She's what's known as a "Leviathan." Not to be confused with the class of ship that is a Leviathan Class ship. No, Moya, rather, is a large cargo ship. She's being used as a prisoner transport vessel. She has a control collar around her hull that keeps her from doing what "Leviathans" special defensive measure is, seeing as "Leviathans" have no offensive capabilities. The race using Moya as a prisoner transport is firing on her in an attempt to get the escaped prisoners to give up. Moya has Pilot (another alien race which looks like a big mushroom with 6 arms, but who's name is unpronounceable, hence "Pilot") pull in the human's ship and manages to break free from her control collar. She then performs her only defensive measure when being attacked. Starburst. The Starburst maneuver never is really explained but it looks much like Moya is creating a small FTL (Faster Than Light) bubble around herself and this is the fastest known traveling ability in the universe. The human, John Crichton (who you might know as the guy who took over the SG-1 unit in Stargate SG-1 when O'Neil becomes a general, Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell), has no idea what's going on. But through the course of the show encounters an alien race that exists inside of Wormhole space. They're looking for a new planet that will welcome them and their kind and give them a new home and won't try to exploit the wormhole knowledge they posses. Crichton then is given knowledge of how to create wormholes but it's locked in his mind. He has a love interest in the story name Aeryn Sun (Air-N soon) (Who you might know as Vala Mal Doran from Stargate SG-1).

I was watching Farscape on TV. It was the second part of a two part where Crichton and Aeryn are being faced with the Scarrans (big lizard looking guys who have the ability to cause great amounts of heat to shoot from their hands, don't ask, plot device for torture). They're on a planet where one of the Ancients (the wormhole race) is building a Wormhole Generator that's supposed to take them all to a safe place and then Crichton can take Aeryn to Earth and live happily ever after. Well, when the Scarran Dreadnought is told to be on it's way, the Ancient unlocks the knowledge in Crichton's brain and is killed. Crichton is left to finish the work that the Ancient had started and then changed his plans for the device when the Scarran's downloaded the information for the Wormhole Generator. It's now going to be a Displacement Device that will burn out after one use. The Scarrans are powerful and very warlike. They can't be left with the knowledge of how to build a Wormhole Generator that will, literally, give them the power to bypass enemy defensive fleets and destroy everyone.

Through the course of events, Crichton is exposed to a massive dose of radiation. He's going to die. John's going to die. See where I'm going with this? So John flies his ship with the Displacement Device out to near where the Scarran Dreadnought is. Now, for those of you who don't know, the largest vessel we have is a super carrier. The USS Ronald Reagan. Beyond that are (as of yet to be developed but are concepts for spacefaring crafts) battleship, super battleship, dreadnought, titan, and worldship. So Scarran Dreadnought... big vessel. Going after it with a one man space ship. So the Displacement Device is activated, with a dying Crichton in the ship with it on it, and a wormhole opens up in space at one end and at the other end opens up into the center of the star the planet they've been on is orbiting, that is known to have solar flares multiple times an hour. Crichton flies his shuttle out of the way and there is a HUGE ball of super heated gas that makes it's way through the wormhole and runs smack right into the Scarran Dreadnought. So wormhole technology safe from Scarran use. Yea! (And awesome special effects!)

Here's where the stupid/good thing I did comes in. Cut to Crichton on a bed with Aeryn at his bedside and he's dying. Saying all these things I would have liked to have heard from Second John or said to Second John. So here I am crying like a newborn who's not on the tit fast enough. Long drawn out explanation as to why, knowing exactly how the episode was going to end, I went ahead and watched it anyway. I feel better now but also kinda cold. It's hard when TV rips your heart out and shows it to you. But at least I liked what I saw.

john, emotional, rant, random, tv, at a loss
