I've realized what I really want is for someone to read my mind and also have perfect (or at least decent) knowledge of my sewing skills and also of what I like to wear and what I'd look good in and say 'That dress! You have to make it!'

But that seems excessively unlikely, so to that end,

About 4 years ago, when my grandmother moved to a nursing home, I got given all of her sewing and knitting supplies. For assorted reasons, I had never unpacked or even looked at the sewing machine. Last night at the K'berg meeting, I was talking to lukasbrierly and he mentioned a fabric technique that he called 'strapwork'. It was a bunch of narrow-ware strips of fabric sewn together in interesting patterns (that might or might not be lined).
