new manga

Jan 20, 2006 23:00

I'm looking to buy some new manga. I basically ask my visiting relatives from Taiwan to buy a bunch of manga for me when they're visiting. Which is next week. And the last visit was last month, so I've already bought the continuations of series I've been following. So now...new series! Any suggestions? I went to some stingy Chinese bookstore over ( Read more... )

Gintama is great! :D For me, anyway. It's a really humor humor one, and if absolutely FILLED with pun and crack. If you're more of a deep plot liking person, though, I won't recommend Gintama. :/ D. Grayman, though, has a REALLY deep plot. And it was really confusing for me, so I didn't really get into it. CLAMP mangas are really good, too. Tsubasa and xxxHolic, for one. Another one I recently got into is Peacemaker Kurogane. It's about the Shinsengumi, and I began reading it because I got into a Shinsengumi craze from Gintama. :O Lots of blood and gore, and strong hints of gayness all around (the author, I heard, is a yaoi lover o_O) and a really deep plot. A not-shounen manga series I like is 'Nodame Cantabile'. It's about music, but it's pretty interesting and funny. :3 I learned some music stuff there. XD Have you also read Bleach? It's a must-read, and there are tons of scanlations out there. But I bet you've read it before. XD; The lj Bleach fandom is BIG ( ... )

Hm, if Gintama is a more humorous type of manga, I'm afraid it won't translate well into Chinese. D= Like for Yakitate Japan...I read scanlations and then bought the Chinese version...and the puns were lost in translation. How many volumes are out for Gintama so far? Maybe I'll buy the first two volumes or so to see if I like it. Or maybe I should buy the Japanese version instead. D.Grayman...I read one chapter before...and yeah, it confused me. T_T;; I'm already reading Tsubasa...just right now actually, since it's the weekend. I'm on volume 12. Haven't touched xxxHolic though. I've watched the anime for Peacemaker Kurogane and felt it was so-so. Don't know how it compares to the manga though. :3 ( ... )

Mmm yeah, I think it'll be more funny if you read Gintama in Japanese... lots of slang too. Gintama is one manga I can't read in the train, I can't help grinning while reading some of it. o_O There are 10 volumes out, and there are scanlations. Since yanime stopped doing it, someone uploaded everything on a gmail account and left us the password and username at the Gintama Community. I'll give you the pass, if you're interested. xxxHolic is interesting. You get to know a lot of the old Japanese sayings or proverbs, and since Tsubasa and xxxHolic are genuinely cross-overed, you'll see little connections to Tsubasa with it ( ... )

Are the scanlations or the raws uploaded to the gmail account? Doesn't matter whichever it is...I'd like to take a look. :3

I'll take a look at bleachportal too. I don't go looking for bleach stuff very often. Hopefully they have chapters starting around volume 19 or so...that's what I have up to, even though I haven't read it yet.

Your layout is very cute. I'm browsing through a site that sells Chinese translated manga right now. Maybe I'll come across that series.

Selling manga to friends would be a good solution...problem is, none of my friends are good at reading Chinese. D= One's currently learning so that she can raid my manga collection...later.

Haha, you sold your Bleach collection? You don't keep a lot of your manga, do you?

As an obligation, I must recommend One Piece. Considering that the manga is quickly approaching 40 volumes, you should not take that suggestion seriously. ^^;

I love shounen manga, so I think I'm not going to be very helpful. Have you ever heard of Monster by Urasawa Naoki? Check that out. It's a psychological thriller taking place in Germany, centered around a Japanese-born physician named Dr. Tenma. It's completed.

In the shoujo department, I love Parfait Tic. It's a love triangle with classic plot, but it also has a lovely graphic and all the shoujo goodness. Yumm. I highly recommend Nodame Cantabile as well.

Haha, I know that One Piece is already really, really long. I'm too scared of buying super long series now. I started buying Conan when there was only one volume out...and diligently, I bought each volume when it came out. And look where it's gotten me now. 51 volumes! I bought Shaman King when it was already pretty long...and suddenly, I had to dedicate one entire row of my shelf to it. D ( ... )

O___o There's STACKS of manga over at our local library. I would've checked them all out, but I've already either seen the anime or read the scans. XDD;;

I think you should totally give D.Gray-man a try. The storyline is really nice and the characters kills me. (even though the interesting characters won't come in until the end of the 1st volume, and Rabi won't come in until chapter 26 Dx)

Gintama is seriously one of the funniest mangas I've ever read. I'm not a fan of the artwork style, but the story is so funny it doesn't really matter anymore XD

I don't really like the manga verison of Honey & Clover either. The anime is just so addicting and pretty compared to the manga. The only reason I want to read the manga is to see if/how it ends differently from the anime.

It's sad how I've been watching Conana for eight years now DX

There were two short waist-high shelves dedicated to manga at this library in the next town down from my university. I went there to check out Dear Boys...and that was it. It was hard checking out manga from there...because they only let us check out 2 at a time.

I used to check out manga from a manga store in a Chinese plaza, but I stopped since it was expensive. 60 cents each!

Somehow, the first chapter of D.Gray-man didn't interest me much. Do you know of scanlations or raws for the rest of the 1st volume?

I'm currently reading scans for the 1st volume of Gintama. It really is a funny manga, but it wouldn't be quite as funny in Chinese. Haha, the artwork is unique. =P

True. the H&C anime was much prettier. Especially the colors. And the music was very nice. Reading the manga just makes me miss the anime more. But like you, I want to what happens later on.

It's sad that I've been following Conan since elementary school and now I'm in universtiy

The public librarys here are pretty lenient. O.o we can check ou 50 books per card at one time.

60cents? O___o There was this anime plaza when I last went to china that rented our anime DVDs. Each DVD disk of a certain anime (which only had 2-3 episodes) were 50cents each.

Gintama is funnier in English than Chinese, I'd think. Honey & Clover is so much love. But the anime didn't really end. It was sort of just one of those "slice of life" things. <3

In 20 years, I'll be sitting here pondering about the two mysteries of life: why I'm still single and WHY hasn't Conan ended yet.

It was an asian branch. The limit for regular books is 10, but for manga, they only let us check out 2. -_-;; I went back a lot to finish reading Dear Boys, and after that, I gave up. Too much work getting there.

Even though it's just showing us a bit of their lives, I still want to find out more about what happens with Nomiya and Yamada!

Ah, I remember those days when I had to search high and low to check out expensive anime. And guess what I was renting? Dragonball Z in Mandarin

*shudders* You do not want to hear Vegeta's voice in Mandarin. I usually hate English dubs, but that Chinese dub makes me appreciate the English one a lot.

I was rewatching the 2nd Conan movie today...and that's from 8 years ago! 0_0 The art style really shows its age!

*blinks* How goes studying?

My favorites are DNAngel and Fruits Basket. They're sorta romance-y. OH! And Rurouni Kenshin! :DDD

So yeah. >> I'd recommed those.

Hehe, I already have DNAngel and Fruits Basket, both up to the current volume. I must say that Fruits Basket is starting to get much more interesting lately, and I can't wait for the next volume to come out. And, I'm so happy that for once, the pairing that I support is what actually happens in the manga.

As for DNAngel, I'm resigned to the fact that I won't see the next volume for quite some time. D=

RK...I don't have the manga, but I've watched most of the anime and read the manga for the Enishi arc. I'd only consider getting the volumes with Soujiro in it, since he's my favorite character in that series. :3

You mean donate to the anime club? I don't know anyone from there. -_-;; Don't think they'd take Chinese manga either. I considered the library...but I don't know. I'm contradictory in that I want to clean my room up a bit, yet I never get rid of anything. D=
