What's with me and posting on Mondays?

I guess I need that long to scrape together something worth talking about.

So here goes. remixthedrabble's latest contest is all wrapped up, and I'd very much like to share the drabbles I was lucky enough to be given. They're all awesome and completely fit the fics they sprang from:
Engine oil and a 03-K64 (Springs and Circuits Remix) by maharetr
Slow Dance (The Walkin' After Midnight Remix) by sophinisba
The Man Behind The Man (The Man in the Mountain Remix) by our very own visiblemarket

As for my own remixes, I did...
Delegation (Lost Souls Remix) for amathela- a Dead Like Me/Reaper crossover featuring Gladys (aka Delores), George, and Sam
Stay Safe Tonight (It's Always a Gamble Remix) for visiblemarket- as if anyone reading this hasn't already read that, but it's a WW2 AU with Peter and Claude (not that you can actually tell from my drabble, but oh well)
Turnover (Weapon Remix) for melodyunity- Firefly, a pre-series look at River

I polished off Pride and Prejudice and Zombies last night, and since some folks wanted to know what I thought of it, here's what I thought of it: it was pretty darn cool. I read a review that said there was too little Austen for the people reading it to read Austen, and too little ultraviolent zombie mayhem for the people reading it to read ultraviolent zombie mayhem. I... don't think that's entirely inaccurate, but I also feel like there's a spectrum between the Austen people and the ultraviolent zombie mayhem people who would find the balance perfectly acceptable. And, anyway, the border between the two is really fascinatingly blurred. That struck me within the first three pages, but I think my most favorite example comes from Lady Catharine de Bourgh's speech about (in the original novel) music. This is how it's been altered, and I think it's just great:

Mister Darcy's just praised his sister's proficiency with weapons.
"I am very glad to hear such a good account of her," said Lady Catharine; "and pray tell her from me, that she cannot expect to excel if she does not practise a good deal."
"I assure you madam," he replied, "that she does not need such advice. She practises very constantly."
"So much the better. It cannot be done too much; and when I next write to her, I shall charge her not to neglect it on any account. I often tell young ladies that no excellence in the deadly arts is to be acquired without constant practice. I have told Miss Bennet several times, that she will never be half my equal unless she practises more; and though Mrs. Collins has no dojo, she is very welcome, as I have often told her, to come to Rosings every day, and spar with my ninjas, provided she promises to kill no more of them. She would be in nobody's way, you know, in that part of the house."

See? Awesome. Decently amusing on its own if you haven't read Pride and Prejudice, pretty freaking hilarious if you have and can relate it to her actual speech.

Anyway, aside from all that, my mom and I are headed to Florida on Wednesday to visit my sister. We'll get back on Saturday, but until then I very much doubt I'll be around. So there's that. Gotta go now, there are some wilted daffodil remains in the garden that need seeing to before it gets too hot.
