So in my last post about this batch of mead I mentioned that I didn't know what to do about all of the strawberry solids in it. There's nothing to be done about those that sink to the bottom, but there were a couple of inches of solids that had floated to the top of my 5 Gal glass carboy. So, I have been hoping to make a 5-gallon batch of Cranberry Mead for a couple of years now. A few year back I made a one-gallon batch that was DELICIOUS (I'm told). The reason (I think) was that I used a full two pounds of cranberries in that one gallon while most recipes suggest one pound per gallon. ( LJ-Cut in deference to Sandy who I do not want to annoy )

You know how sticky honey is. Seriously, when you spill a little it gets everything sticky, it's hard to clean up. Imagine spilling 15 pounds of it in the kitchen. Well, at least it's thick and viscous so 15 lbs. of it shouldn't spread very fast. Right? Oh crap I mixed it up into 5 gallons of water first now it runs everywhere ( Read more... )
