This is going to be some personal reflection that was kicked off by the protests in Baltimore. It doesn't really have anything to do with the protests, at the moment I am feeling very overwhelmed, not so much by the response to injustice, but by figuring out my own place within this fight and now to support and participate in an appropriate way. I totally have plans to continue posting about our trip but right now all my free time is taken up hanging out with our 7-week-old foster kitten. He's pretty awesome but super needy, since he spends all day alone and doesn't have any siblings. He's 1 3/4 pounds of cute, teeth, claws, and energy. Most days this winter when I'm driving to work I see the same young woman walking down St. Paul Street. I first noticed her because she physically reminds me of a friend of mine, but I kept noticing her because I admire the figure she cuts as she strides down the sidewalk ( Read more... )

Lately I've been reading a lot of fantasy and sci-fi and, ok, I know that this is the very definition of escapist literature but do you ever wish you could just step the hell out of this world sometimes, and into another one? I think I need to have one real goal for 2014 and that is to get my habits changed so that I can make it out for multiple out of doors, in nature, quiet, with wildlife, not on pavement walks per week. My sanity might depend on it.
