On Saturday we went into London for the fourth time in three days. This time it was back to the British Museum to hear Prof. Patrick Finglass of the University of Bristol give a talk entitled “Did the Trojan Horse Really Exist”.

We spent a large chunk of yesterday in the British Museum which was very enjoyable but rather tiring. The big exhibition on there at the moment is Troy: Myth and Reality and we have been going to a series of lectures on the subject.

When I was writing about my trip to the Wallace Collection I forgot to mention something that made me giggle. A party of schoolchildren who looked about 9-10 were being shown a large cabinet decorated with images from Greek mythology. A curator was showing them a scene with Daphne turning into a tree. I went into London today to meet ghost_guessed at the British Museum. We visited the Lewis Chessmen who I have to say hello to every time I go to the British Museum as they look so amazingly miserable in a "we're stuck here in the glass case playing an endless game of chess which we can never win and all these people keep staring at us...life as a chess piece ( Read more... )

I had to go up to London yesterday so I took the opportunity to go to the British Museum to see the Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead Exhibition. This is where I admit that I'm not very knowledgeable about the Ancient Egyptians and everyone's fascination with mummies seems to have passed me by. Back from Lincolnshire (actually we were back on Sunday but yesterday was rather busy). Had a good weekend where we achieved absolutely nothing in the way of house clearance, but did enjoy ourselves. I went to the Museum of London today with my friend T on a hunt for something we both remembered very fondly.
