My young friend Vika is riding from the Bay to Hay (Ynyslas to Hay-on-Wye, a hundred miles) this week to raise money for the children's cancer ward at Birmingham Children's Hospital, hoping to bring it up to the standards of the teenage cancer ward built in memory of her brother Laurie. Strange to think she's older than him now...

I've been fairly detached from the Jubilee - people kept asking me "What are you doing for the Jubilee Weekend" and I kept saying "Um... when is it?" It's Independence Day in Pakistan, the floods aren't over and the cholera is starting to kick in. The Disaster Emergencies Appeal is still running. Hope it's helping. Pakistan zindabad.

I'm back from my bit of the Wisden Walk for the Laurie Engel Fund. I joined Hugh and Paul for a day and a half, walking from Kemble to Gloucester, which Hugh reckoned to be about 23 miles (mostly along the Wysis Way and Cotswold Way), and my pedometer logged at nearly 70,000 paces. Today my friends Hugh and Paul are setting off on the Wisden Walk from Golden Pot in Hampshire to the Golden Valley in Herefordshire.
