We had a short jaunt to the Nice Vets today.
Tabitha seemed rather subdued yesterday evening, and then I noticed she was carrying her tail in a very odd way - drooping instead of erect. She was still jumping on to tables without difficulty, but didn't look quite as graceful as usual. So after consulting my neighbour we agreed to see if we could get her to the vet, and they said "Can you get her here in ten minutes?" which we reckoned we could do as my neighbour was just about to drive to work and could drop us off.
Evidently we were a bit late, as I was told the vets had just started surgery and I'd have to wait at least two hours and possibly more, or come back later, or else leave her. I wasn't very keen on the latter options: I no longer had transport and, though it had been very easy to get her into her cage when she wasn't expecting it, I doubted she'd be fooled twice; and I didn't want her to feel abandoned.
So I said I'd wait (I'd brought a book in case) but just then the senior vet rushed out ("I'm in mid-op!"), had a quick look, agreed she had a sore tail and a temperature (probably caused by a bite), gave her a shot and prescribed antibiotics. Then we came home in a taxi, and she seems quite happy now - a few minutes ago I was delighted to see her trot in with her tail up.
Laurie would be eighteen today - just too young to have voted three weeks ago. In the five years since he died, wonders have been achieved in his name.
The Teenage Cancer Trust/Laurie Engel fund has just passed £1 million, and
the first patients have moved into the ward we've built with it. Fund-raising continues, to support this and other TCT wards across the country.
Zimbabwe beat India in a one-day international today. First time they've done that in eight years.
