The Wisden Walk for Laurie

May 19, 2007 12:24

Today my friends Hugh and Paul are setting off on the Wisden Walk from Golden Pot in Hampshire to the Golden Valley in Herefordshire. They're planning to cover 150 miles in ten days in order to raise money for the Laurie Engel Fund, to improve facilities for teenagers with cancer at the Birmingham hospital where Laurie was treated.

Many of you will remember that Laurie died in September 2005, when he was 13, and he would have been 15 a week on Monday, when Hugh and Paul aim to reach his home.

Some of you will have heard Jonathan Agnew publicising the walk on Test Match Special, but when I heard it I don't think he gave the full website address - he said "justgiving.com", which gets you to the umbrella charity fund-raising site, but not to the relevant page. If you feel like contributing (though I realise some have given to this cause already), the correct page is at http://www.justgiving.com/wisdenwalk. I can also field cheques to TCT Laurie Engel Fund and redirect them.

I'm hoping to join the walk for a day next week. I really wish I were doing all of it, but I don't trust my fitness, and I don't want to slow the boys down too much.
