UNICORNS! (haven't done a variation on this meme for a little while.)

*faints with excitement over TWO of my icons here* (People want to use my icons is a concept I find hard to get my head around. It's probably my fault for starting with Carry On icons...) Also re: what you said about irrelevant quotes - this is my yltimate in that line, made by catwalksalone from Diana Wynne Jones's utterly brilliant The Tough Guide to Fantasyland. And, yes, oppress more people in S&S - it worked with me & I'm grateful. :-D

Also, talking of which, and possibly an impossibly evil idea: S&S pirate AU. :-p

And Three/Liz - but I'd be MORE than happy if you changed one. *looks worried*

I've got a little carried away with LJ lately, so I think I'd better just answer this here.

1. Nine and Rose by (hmm nessismore?) I didn't have a Nine icon, or a Rose one and thought I probably ought & quite liked it. The same person had also made some Star Wars ones.

2. One of a batch of quote icons I made from Joan Aiken's Midnight Is A Place. It used the word discombobulation and is fairly useful.

3. I rewatched Cranford after getting it for my birthday - it's great, and I found that among birdienl's many beautiful icons. It's very expressive and contains Judi Dench, Eileen Atkins and Imelda Staunton in one icon. What more can a person reasonably ask for?

4. Vila! sallymn makes the best B7 icons. I thought this one would be bound to applicable when waffling about writing, memes etc. Plus, Vila! (Did I mention that?)

5. Another one of sallymn's B7 icons. Uploaded for purposes of proving to dbskyler that B7 is totally going to win any silly SFX contest. This is the quite amazing giant ant that lumbers in on location during The Harvest of Kairos. (Just as

I hadn't thought of the Horrible Giant Orange Ant as a distraction from the Even More Horrible Ben Steed Script, but you're quite right. Harvest of Kairos was definitely one of those episodes that gets filed under "Years from now, we'll think back on this, laugh uncomfortably and change the subject."

The giant ant is definitely a highlight, though. Not quite as good as the Michelin Men, but very close. :-)

You can blame the Michelin Men on budget constraints and the usual Awful Production Values, but I can't blame the Giant Orange Ant on anything at all. Maybe it was a cousin of the Obscene Phallic Monster From the Pit from the nadir of Tom Baker.

I might attempt to argue that this Ben Steed episode was actually worse than the other two, but to do that, I'd have to remember details of all three, and I've been trying very hard not to do so.

Well, The Harvest of Kairos does at least have Avon's pet rock, and Moloch has a couple of redeeming features (or at least, I like Vila and Servalan as an unexpected comedy double act, and Avon's expression on holding a dead mouse), but it's Power that surely has to be the worst? (That's the one with the Homix and the Seska. Where your quote comes from, and, grr, yes, could he not just leave the subject alone?)

For me at least, Power was the worst in terms of the putrid stench of testosterone wafting from every pore, and Moloch did have some good moments. Kairos is less offensive than Power (almost anything would be!), but it's a shambles as far as storytelling goes: a failed work as opposed to an obnoxious worldview.

In a literary parallel of 'marry, shag, or cliff', I would spork Kairos, denounce Power in a ferocious blogger rant, and rewrite Moloch.

S&S pirate AU: this somehow morphed and turned into a smuggler AU. I haven't got the terminology to explain how everything correlates (timey-wimeyness gives me a headache at the best of times), but if you recall that speech in A1 about how Time is a corridor and things keep trying to break in

No, that works quite well. I mean, a Pirate S&S AU is never going to be that easy to pull off, but you managed a sensible in-verse logic and an appealing scenario, whereas I managed... um... crack. (But beautifully-posed-on-deck crack. :-D)

Also... yep, Liz wins on the hair front. Her hairstyle in Silurians gives her the edge, I think. :-) And 5. is totally canon, except we don't see it like we do with Sarah.

Three/Liz? Oh dear. That's one of the very few pairings (possibly the only pairing?) that I actually 'ship sexually in, er, some detail. :S I shall endeavor to keep it mild, though.

1. Okay, I'll make this "first official date". After the TARDIS is fixed, he eventually gets around to picking Liz up again and taking her to the most romantic planet he can think of... or trying to. (I suspect the TARDIS might be a bit jealous!) Anyway, they wind up somewhere reasonably romantic and have a lovely date with snuggling - Three is the most snuggle-able Doctor *nods* - and maaaybe a snog and tactful fade-to-black at some point. (Depends how jealous the TARDIS would be; you don't want to irritate the transportation!)

But Liz doesn't want to spend half her life chasing round random planets after an extremely sexy alien troublemaker, so she eventually insists on going back to Cambridge to build her own life and career. She's very helpful to UNIT after Four gallivants off with Sarah and leaves them in the lurch, though
