S&S pirate AU: this somehow morphed and turned into a smuggler AU. I haven't got the terminology to explain how everything correlates (timey-wimeyness gives me a headache at the best of times), but if you recall that speech in A1 about how Time is a corridor and things keep trying to break in?

Well, in this 'verse, Time is an island under siege / blockade by said Things, and the Elementals are an elite underground whose job is to keep the island safe and supplied. Sapphire and Steel together run a smallish smuggling boat; Steel is the captain, Sapphire is the navigator (this is predicated on the way Steel usually acts like he's in charge or older, but doesn't have Sapphire's level of time-sensitivity). Mostly they try to slip through the blockade without meeting anyone, but sometimes they have to exchange fire with the enemy.

Silver, Lead, and the other Specialists are members of the Elemental underground who work on land, misdirecting the revenuers and generally taking care of the "close your eyes, my darling, while the Gentlemen go by" side of things. Silver specifically is one of those chaps like Richmond in The Unknown Ajax, who goes down to the shore with a pack-train and sneaks the contraband the rest of the way to a good hiding place.

I'm not at all sure how well this works or anything, but it's what came to mind... *shrugs*

No, that works quite well. I mean, a Pirate S&S AU is never going to be that easy to pull off, but you managed a sensible in-verse logic and an appealing scenario, whereas I managed... um... crack. (But beautifully-posed-on-deck crack. :-D)

Also... yep, Liz wins on the hair front. Her hairstyle in Silurians gives her the edge, I think. :-) And 5. is totally canon, except we don't see it like we do with Sarah.
