When I was a kid and roaming around on our ‘farm’ near Vandalia, Ohio, a serious treat in the fall was to find (and almost immediately eat) wild pawpaws straight from the tree.  The fruit is incredibly good - sort of like a banana crossed with a fig - but it has a really short ‘ripe’ period, right around the first frost. A big storm came through here and did a lot of damage - trees and power lines down everywhere.  This messed up other things for what the girls were going to do, and they’ve been quietly at home most of the day, playing in the house.  (Susan drove off for a few appointments this afternoon and took Mere’s skates with her…so Mere couldn’t do any ( Read more... )
