The surgery took place late on Tuesday morning; the pain levels are not what I had feared, and I’m doing moderately well.  I am taking Norco for the pain; it makes me sleepy and foggy.  A few things of note:

The family has taken up a new and very nice practice; having family reading times - not scheduled as such, but so everyone has something good to read and is in the living room together reading.  It works pretty well, I think, and is an improvement over endless oh-I-can’t-watch-that debates about TV stuff.

I don’t take my Kindle everywhere, but it has gotten a lot of use, especially when i know I’m going to have to sit and wait somewhere.    (Like at the hospital.)    Susan and Meredith have used it a little, as has my niece Kay and my mother-in-law, and it looks like we’re getting another Kindle in the family.

Seems that I’n in with the in crowd at last; the majority of Kindle owners seem to be over 50, and love it because it’s easier on them to read with it.  I just like the ability to carry a pile of reading material with, including homebrew, and the  newspapers and magazine subscriptions.  Makes keeping up with the news and my reading a lot easier.  ( Read more... )

Sometimes, you end up with a movie or book or story that you just get stuck on - as in, you’re at page 138, and the early part of the book is good, but the author has just gone off on a tear with some weird artsy material that passes all rational understanding, and you just put the darn thing down and you don’t pick it up again for a while.

They’re selling the old Kindles as used through Amazon for around $250.   I thought I saw them for less a few days ago…these are not from Amazon per se, but from people selling their old ones on the ‘open’ market.

I’m looking at the pile of stuff on my must-read list, and realizing that I’m In For a Busy Month.   Point of fact, this is the most piled up I’ve been for a while, between that and house paperwork.  (pay no attention to the to-read list on the Memnison site, it’s woefully out of date.
