This recipe is from an apothocary book, but gives specific insight to usages both for medicine and the fact that rich people bought marzipan from the apothocary for banquets.  There are two methods given for preparation, as well as instructions for a sugar glaze, which I hadn't encountered yet in the quest for treats!

All kinds of Marzipan to make

Take almonds / as many as you want / grind them small / take
even so weight sugar / as three parts almonds / and three parts
sugar / part such in two parts / keep of the half / then other
boil with rosewater into a syrup / and take the rosewater /
