So our two 'Frogs in Oz' arrived on Saturday afternoon. They have been living in their van for 3 months - I haven't seen inside it but it seems to be very ill equipped (not even anything to cook on!). Their names are Emma & Morgan. There's a couple of French CS-ers coming tomorrow, and Alex is parking her car out the front, and the owner is coming around to do some work. Nic is going to be in Margaret River though, so there will only be 3 cars out the front (not too bad). We're meeting up with our first Perth couchsurfer at the Brass Monkey tonight but I left my phone at home :( I hope he recognises us. Otherwise it could be a real bummer. Maybe I should nip home and get my phone after work, but I was meaning to go to the gym :(((

We will be embracing our fourth couchsurfer on Sunday night. He is a French-Canadian fellow and is travelling around Australia making liberal use of couchsurfing. So, I picked up the couchsurfer at 2.30pm at the train station on Thursday. His name was Sjoerd and he was a very talkative, friendly dude. I liked him immediately. The first thing we did was go to the Superpit lookout. We hung out there for a while and I shocked him by telling him that I had been to Utrecht, his favorite city in The Netherlands. I've ordered a harmonica, it looks simple enough to teach myself how to play. It only cost $46 including postage so really it's not a huge gamble. I don't know if I'll be able to play well, my efforts on the guitar haven't been great, but it will be an awesome instrument to have on the road and will also be useful for entertainment if worse comes ( Read more... )

I just bought a cheap long-board skatey at K-mart. Not sure how long it will last me but it looks like fun and it has bigger than standard wheels which will be good around here. I will probably take it to Perth with me on the Anzac day long weekend. It's a little heavy but I reckon it will make getting around a little less energy intensive ( Read more... )

I have signed up on Couchsurfing which is a really cool website where people offer up their couches for travelers, or they find couches for their travels! Since we have a spare room, I thought that this would be a good way to 'give back' and that way when I go on my tour I'll have couchsurfing buddies.
