go skatey!!

I just bought a cheap long-board skatey at K-mart. Not sure how long it will last me but it looks like fun and it has bigger than standard wheels which will be good around here. I will probably take it to Perth with me on the Anzac day long weekend. It's a little heavy but I reckon it will make getting around a little less energy intensive.

Funny, the assumptions people make. This is the second time I have been into Kmart where the person at the checkout has assumed that I am buying these things for a young boy! She said something like 'oh he'll like that' or something. The first time was when I bought a 16" spare bike tube for my trailer, and one of those cheap mudguards that you attach to your seat post and she said something about 'did someone have a stack, did they', I just complained about double gees. This time I just smiled and nodded and played along. I guess I don't look so young for my age anymore.

I had to get skatey home on my flat bar road bike, with no luggage racks to speak of. My messenger bag was also full to the brim with a Wii remote charger dock, knee/elbow/wrist pads and 5 plastic cones for training in the park tomorrow. I bought a nylon luggage strap and started out with it strapped against my frame but it slipped a couple of times and the rough surface of the board was scratching my paint! Even through the plastic covering that it was wrapped in. After some deliberation, I decided to wind the strap around each truck twice and then sling the strap over my shoulder, with the board sitting horizontally on top of my messenger bag. It worked OK for a short distance, but I was holding myself in a funny position to prevent it from slipping off my shoulders.

I am finally completely verified on Couchsurfing. I need 3 more hosting or surfing experiences and a few verified people to vouch for me and then I might become a City Ambassador. Not too hard for Kal!!! I will probably have to meet the other guy that's on CS in Kal. Not sure that he's that into the concept - his response rate is like 29%.

I've been on that site since Feb, and we've had two surfers so far. There's a third guy coming but he's not so sure when.

Going to see if I can get Esther & Mike's DVD player to work this avo. Not sure if I'll be able to bring any insight for them but I will give it a go. I think they're struggling to get it to work with their new TV.
