Thanks to Vylar, mostly, I've been making slow-but-steady progress on the Novel, despite my brain being eaten by work and wedding plans. I have been too busy being a cheesemonger lately to be much of a writer. Either I really really love this job, or my brain was looking for something non-novel to glom onto. Perhaps a bit of both. I finally gathered the bits and pieces of the three or four different versions of the novel into one document and then attempted to make a table of contents for it--I like doing this because then I can find parts of the story when I need to reference them. I've gotten back to waking up at 6am to write this week. It really does work best for me. I can write in one hour in the morning what it takes me two hours to struggle over in the afternoon. My focus just isn't there. Even this morning, which felt slow, I wrote something like 500 words. If I manage to do that for 200 days, I will have a novel. Fine ( Read more... )

My grandpa, who just turned 87, said to me as I was driving him home on Christmas Day: "Well, I guess I'll make it 'til next Christmas, or die trying." He may be losing his mind, but he still has a sense of humor. It's a worthy resolution for all of us.
