On New Year's Resolutions

Jan 06, 2009 06:55

My grandpa, who just turned 87, said to me as I was driving him home on Christmas Day: "Well, I guess I'll make it 'til next Christmas, or die trying." He may be losing his mind, but he still has a sense of humor. It's a worthy resolution for all of us.

Other than that, my only real resolution is to be more patient. I have discovered that my impatience does very little in this world except to make me unhappy. It does not, in fact, make other people move faster or do things the way I think they should be done.

When it comes to writing, I have goals (different from resolutions):

Finish a first draft of Zozzled by Memorial Day
Keep sending out "Fratham"
FInish the rewrite of "Zadie" and send that out too
Write a nonfiction query letter for an article I'd like to write

I think that will take me through the first half of the year. Goals to be reevaluated at that time.
