Over in Customers_Suck, someone (the customer who sucked) complained about being wished 'happy holidays', and I ended up writing this comment;

I'm reading the Armchair Economist, just for fun, and at one point, the author describes a very simple model.  In short, both Jack and Jill share a well, and both draw water from it.  Jack  earns £10,000 a year, and pays 10% of that, £1000, towards the upkeep of the well.  Jill earns £100,000 a year, and pays 5%, £5000 of that, towards the upkeep ( Read more... )

Just a couple of thoughts.

I think sports has, to some extent, replaced the need for war in Europe.  Particularly football.  It's like, we get our antagonism out that way.

Sports and war have had a few odd connections.  German soldiers played football with English soldiers at Christmas in 1914.  Germany hosted the 1936 olympics, which Hitler used to ( Read more... )

I have a friend who has nothing going for him.

A couple of years ago, for a week or two, I was in a pretty bad place. Nobody loved me.:(

I mentioned this to a friend of mine, who responded "I love you."

"What?"

"I love you."

I didn't directly respond then, but over the next week or so, I depended on him more. As I said, bad place.

We won't have true equality until women can be charged with rape, and a woman who marries a King does not become a Queen.  The only reason she does now is because the office of Queen is less powerful than that of King (which is why Prince Philip isn't).
