What I just finished reading: I did finally finish listening to Empire of Blue Water, which I reviewed in last week's Wednesday post. Again, highly recommended for fans of 17th c. history, pirates, religious wars, and Henry Morgan.

Thank you all for your kind condolences. I am not very good at pets, I'm afraid - I feel so strongly when I lose one. My neighbor, who originally gave me Henry a bit over a year ago, tells me I should drown my sorrows in another cat, and has offered to go to the pound with me. We shall see ( Read more... )

Things are tough Chez Isis at the moment. We are back from a week of backpacking in the wilderness, which was lovely except that a sock choice error on the first day resulted in an extremely bad toe blister which required a lot of care and doctoring daily and still was painful to hike on. What I just finished reading: Cinder, by Marissa Meyer, the cyborg Cinderella story (as audiobook). I enjoyed it a lot despite the somewhat shoddy worldbuilding and too much reliance on the heroine not connecting dots obvious to the reader (and having the explanation that would solve everything interrupted before it could be given), and I've got ( Read more... )
