I got around to writing that short original story I wanted to do featuring a character I always wanted to write: a Mary Sue who *knows* she's a Mary Sue and is really upset about it.

There are also vampires. Because I freakin' hate vampires.

Ha. Yesterday and today I wrote 4000+ words of original fantasy (short story) fiction set in a world I invented over ten years ago. At the time I'd hoped to make a full-length story out of it, but couldn't do it because I couldn't figure out how to write it. I actually had a short story picked up a while back, but didn't hear anything after that. This morning I got an email saying that they've changed their format (quarterly to yearly) and since he won't be able to publish it until July 2012, I should submit elsewhere. So the other day I was reading this fic, which was actually very good. And I got to the end and thought, 'Hey, that was awesome,' and scrolled back up to check out the summary and info and what-all. And I saw that the summary stated that it was 'horror' and my first response was, "No, no it's not horror."

( I spent the rest of the night trying to figure out why I had this reaction. )

A while ago I submitted a story to a brand-spanking new horror mag (so new there has so far been only 1 issue published O_O), and today I received a favorable response from the editor. Definitely a surprise, since of course the likelihood of rejection is always so high...and this is a print magazine that pays ( Read more... )

Awww. Today I received a very heartening rejection (and it's a damn good thing it was rejected because it was the story I accidentally dual-submitted and which wound up being posted elsewhere, whoops!)

Sent off my sub to the new Machine of Death anthology. Very exciting! Er, not because I expect it to be accepted, just because, hey, I love Dinosaur Comics and Wondermark, and it's fun just to participate. ;D
