Welcome to our universe.
Givens:
1. Kara and Karl had a child less than a year out of the Academy. It was an accident. His name is Perseus "Percy" Agathon. He loves his parents, but has a little bit of a chip on his shoulder about not being raised by them, and he is a handful.
2. People who are Cylons in the series are still Cylons. If they knew they were Cylons at the start of the series, they still know they are Cylons. If they did not know they were Cylons at the start of the series (which includes Boomer), they do not discover they are Cylons until their human “death." That being said, the sleeper Cylons find themselves strangely drawn to other sleeper Cylons and active Cylons, often accompanied by a sense of familiarity and/or deja vu.
3. The Cylons did not attack. There is in-universe logic to why.
4. Soulmates. Kara was destined to be the lifelong best bro of Karl, the wife of Sam, and the illicit lover of Lee, attacks or no attacks, so that works out pretty well for her. Unfortunately, Karl’s soulmate is Athena, who for all intents and purposes does not exist in this canon, so he's kind of an eternal bachelor/party crasher.
5. In true “this has happened before and it will happen again” fashion, popular music in the Colonies is the exact same as current popular music on our Earth, down to song lyrics, titles, and artist names. Although, strangely, not years. We use whatever year suits us.
6. Just to address this: neither of us really believe in an afterlife, like, for real, but the canon BSG universe believes in Elysium, so whatever, we buy into that for fic purposes.
7. Sam has a basically limitless amount of money (but even if the life that saved him from the streets had been not so fiscally rewarding, he still would have grown up into an equally happy, pleasant man)
8. In order to help us keep everything straight, we devised a year system. Percy's birth, the "zero hour" of our universe, is timed for December 8th, 2003, in honor of the first night of the miniseries. Everything is counted backwards or forwards from there.
The Original Characters:
Adama, Joseph ("Jay"): The fetus Lee ran away from in "Black Market." Kind of a douchenozzle, in the class at the Fleet Academy a year ahead of Hera Tzeng and Lola Tyrol. Lola dates him briefly, but breaks up with him because of basically
these reasons.
Agathon, Calliope: The middle child of Kitty and Phil Agathon, she is seven years older than her baby brother Karl. A librarian, not married, no kids. The tallest of the Agathon children.
Agathon, Hera: The eldest child of Kitty and Phil Agathon, she is twelve years older than her baby brother Karl. A Captain in the Colonial Marine Corps, she was stationed on both Triton and Galactica at the same time as Karl, where they became rather close. Her unit was shipped off Galactica two days before the decommissioning ceremony. The shortest of the Agathon children at "only" six feet, and her younger siblings teased her mercilessly about this.
Agathon, Katherine (“Kitty”): Born on Scorpia, she served in Galactica’s CIC during the Cylon War, where she met Phil Agathon. They married and had five children, the youngest and only boy being Karl “Helo” Agathon. A scientist of the theoretical think-y variety. After raising five kids, can bandage any wound, help with any school diorama, and keep a straight face while listening to any overdramatic young love problem.
Agathon, Ladon (“Luscious N. Delicious”): A somewhat well-known author of trashy crime novels. Karl's paternal cousin, the fierce matriarch of a drag troupe on Caprica. Estranged from her father, but a big fan of her Uncle Phil and Aunt Kitty, who invited her to all their holiday gatherings where she doted on little Karl, fifteen years her junior. She was ecstatic when he came to Caprica to go the Fleet Academy. They hung out sometimes when he was on leave and were great pals.
Agathon, Leto: (married name: Leto Mornu) The second-oldest child of Kitty and Phil Agathon, she is ten years older than her baby brother Karl. A scientist/stay-at-home mom, in during various periods of her life. Was pregnant with her fourth child when Kara was pregnant with Percy and was generally helpful even when Kara tried to push her away.
Agathon, Perseus (“Percy”): Elder child of Karl Agathon; only child of Kara Thrace. Raised by his grandparents on Aquaria. Zero interest in going Fleet, much to his parents’ dismay. Grows up to be an ephemeral artist who works primarily with ice and snow. Kind of a manslut.
Agathon, Philomelus (“Phil”): Born on Aquaria, he served in Galactica’s CIC during the Cylon War, where he met Kitty Thomas. They married and had five children, the youngest and only boy being Karl “Helo” Agathon. A scientist of the microscopes and beakers variety. An adorably nerdy dad, loves bowties.
Agathon, Phoebe: (married name: Phoebe Agathon-Rex) The fourth-oldest child of Kitty and Phil Agathon, she is nineteen months older than her younger brother Karl. Owner of Heim’s only sex shop, has a wife and five kids.
Dualla, Benjamin: Anastasia Dualla's husband. A quiet, nerdy, and sweet CIC officer. He took Dee's last name after they got married because it made logical sense to him that she should keep the name everyone called her. Their billets were linked so that they were always assigned together. He unequivocally adored her. His pet name for her was "Anabelle."
Marquis, James: Percy’s husband. Sassy and intellectual. Owns a bookstore and is Virgon, the Colonial equivalent of being British. Ten years older than Percy, which is actually rather tame for Percy’s usual taste.
Robbins, Grant: Sam Anders’ roommate and pyramid teammate at the University of Picon. Drafted to play pro after college but blew out his knee in his first season and moved back to Picon with his girlfriend, where he got into real estate. Has at least one child, who is adorable with blonde ringlets. She calls Sam “Uncle Sam,” and he calls her “Princess.”
Tyrol, Lola: The oldest child and only daughter of Sharon and Galen Tyrol. Hera Tzeng’s roommate at the Academy, where they were bitter rivals. A shitty pilot who washes out of flight school, eventually goes into diplomacy and is the Fleet’s ambassador to Gemenon.
Tyrol, Franklin ("Rhombus") and Theodore ("Ted"): Sharon and Galen Tyrol’s identical twin sons. Franklin is a Raptor ECO; Ted is an accountant. They were born after Sharon began an affair with Helo, but she is pretty sure they're Galen’s (they are).
Tzeng, Hera (“Stiletto”): (married name: Hera Cross) The younger child of Karl Agathon. Her mother is a friends-with-benefits he had on Aquaria. An avid pyramid fan from a very young age; when she was five she wrote a very angry letter to her half-brother's stepfather--Sam Anders--in aggressive crayon when he retired from the C-Bucs, which he made sure to keep and pull out during occasions for optimum embarrassment. A very good Viper pilot who makes CAG at a respectably young age, but she musters out with her knuckledragger boyfriend and becomes a high school teacher on Caprica.
***
Hugo: The toughest kid in teenage!Sam’s foster home, was a go-between for the teenage gang and the Picon mob they often did jobs for. Made Sam's life a living hell.
Coach Christopher: Kara and Karl’s pyramid coach at the Academy. They liked her.
Jason Agathon: Phil's brother, did not serve in the Cylon war. Is estranged from his son, Ladon.
Cookie: One of Kara and Sam's dogs, a rescue with black and white shaggy fur. A mutt, their closest guess is some kind of shepard mix. Sam's buddy.
Bandit: Another of Kara and Sam's dogs, contemporary to Cookie. A rescued greyhound mix. Kara's buddy.
Ampersand: Kara and Sam's dog after Cookie and Bandit were gone. Name possibly inspired by a nickname for Sam that occasionally popped up in his fanbase: "&ers." Or maybe Kara's just a really big fan of Y: The Last Man
Starbuck, Helo, and Little T: Percy's dogs. Everyone thought him giving them those names was weird. Starbuck was clearly the alpha of the pack; she was a real bitch.
