I recently saw a Stone Soup cartoon that caught my eye from both directions, as an employer and as an employee. I'd love to make their choice, to just sit back and ignore that pile of paper some nameless/faceless person thinks I'm doing for them.  Work is hard and annoying, and I far prefer drinking coffee with a friend.

Frankly, I don't read much fiction anymore.  Except for an occasional fluffy piece of reading just as a wet cotton puff on my exhausted mind, I mostly want to spend any free time I have *learning* things.  There's so much I want to learn!  I want to learn more about the northern Mediterranean, about Italy and Albania, Greece and Turkey. This book, by Dave Boling, is almost not about the bombing of Guernica.  It's about a village of about 5,000 people that serves as the market town for the area.  The main characters are a family of brothers who are a farmer, fisherman and cleric with political ties born in a Basque village just before the start of the 20th century.
