Sunny today. Our high was 79F.

I was up about 6:30 a.m. and back to work on The Ultraviolet Alphabet and managed letters O through P. Looming end of American democracy or not. I spent more time trying to solve the plot problems with The Night Watchers. More time on the Bashi Marl.

I wish I could say that today was as productive as yesterday. I managed to finish Ian Nathan's exhaustive account of the making of Peter Jackson's Middle-earth films, Anything You Can Imagine: Peter Jackson and the Making of Middle-earth. But I don't suppose that counts as work ( Read more... )

We actually got a few clouds and a hint of rain today. Enough to briefly wet the streets. But there's no more in the forecast, and the high was 81F.

Not much to write about today. I'm back in that place where I have to beat back the anxiety enough to start working again.

Really, the only decent thing about today was that we had sunlight for much of it. Our high was 69F.

No work on anything. A rough night, and I wasn't up until 7 a.m., and there was no focusing very long on anything.

I woke last night at 1 a.m., watched a movie, and when it was done I got up and wrote on The Night Watchers until 4 a.m. I did 1,265 words and finished "interlude four." Then I went to bed and slept until 6:44 a.m., when I got up and edited what I'd written. This is a very strange way to be a writer, but it seems to be ( Read more... )

A warmer day today. That was the good thing. Our high was 75F, and I actually have my window open again.

I slept sytraight through until 6 a.m., which hardly ever happens. I spent the next two hours trying to write the fourth interlude in The Night Watchers, but I had underestimated the degree to which it needed to be researched ahead of time. ( Read more... )

And here we are, All Saints' Day. Or el Día de los Muertos. Choose your poison. For me, it is the first day of winter. Or, if you live in Alabama, the first day of the rainy season. Yeah, so...I hardly slept. I was awake around 3:30 a.m., the got up at 5, I think. But I wrote.
