The best political news of the past couple weeks is obviously the striking down of Prop 8; hopefully the decision is upheld. The whole situation with Prop Hate should serve as a warning against putting the rights of minorities to a majority vote.

After I trimmed my trees a week or two ago, on Friday astute_reason helped me finish enough yardwork to make my lawn halfway presentable. (My lawn mower gave up the ghost a month ago; we were able to use his dad's mower.) My mom went home today! I'm pretty surprised that it happened on a Sunday, but apparently her doctors agreed to take out the drain they'd had put in her and didn't see fit to keep her in the hospital. All she has to do now is fill some prescriptions and make appointments with each doctor in turn.

For April Fool's Day this year, Google Reader announced a rewards program based on how many items users have read...except it wasn't entirely a joke, and it was later announced that they would actually be sending gout patches. I completely forgot about it for several weeks before unexpectedly getting my own (awesome) patch in the mail on Saturday. ( Read more... )
