- Wednesday was a good day.
- This Week in Things That Could Only Have Been Brought to you by the Internet (thank you, Bill Kurtis, for the internet): a Very Personal Meeting between Old Spice Man, Feminist Hulk...and Judith Butler.
- Ultraviolet light saves the day yet again.
- I always feel more civilized around the house after vacuuming (the downstairs, at least; the upstairs is still kind of left to the wolves).
- Last week the Lost season six score release was officially announced: two discs, two and a half hours of music, coming September 14th. I was hoping that with no new season next spring to piggyback on Varese would prepare the release in time to be released alongside the final DVDs, and so they have. There were so many musical highlights this year that I can hardly speculate as to the makeup of the final set, but I'm sure it'll be immensely satisfying. (Of course, I do have a few fervent hopes for potential inclusions.) The impending release will also enable me to commence serious work on my mix for the second half of the show, whenever I manage to devote the attention to it--and with a two-disc release for season six like the one from season three, I'll even have approximately the same amount of music to condense for each disc.
Toward the end of each year I keep getting the silly idea that there're only a few more film-score releases I'll be interested in for the year, only to be surprised by things I simply have to have. Two years ago I thought I was done when the Indiana Jones box came out in November, only to be sucked in by Film Score Monthly's big sale that December; last year I thought the Exodus re-recording would be it for me, before Intrada's Back to the Future came out, the In Search of Peace samples happily convinced me to buy it just before it sold out and FSM's Rózsa box took a tumble through the calendar. There're three big releases this fall I know I'll have to have: FSM's Star Trek: The Next Generation box in early September, Lost Season Six in the middle of the month and Doug Adams' The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films/Rarities Archive book/CD, finally debuting at the beginning of October. (Whether I'll pre-order from a local brick-and-mortar store to get it on the street date or wait until two days later to get it at a Q&A/signing in New York is still up in the air. If I don't have to buy the book at the event to get in, I'll probably get it those couple of days earlier and just bring it in to get it signed.) I'm sure, though, that there'll be releases I want in the final quarter of the year...and even if not, I'll probably take the opportunity to catch up with La La Land's Krull, Batman and other releases I've passed over lately.
