The living room, much to my surprise, seems to be in the process of a paradigm shift from "mishmash" to "British Colonial" style. It's awaiting the arrival of a sofa and available funds for area rugs, end tables, and accent lamps to complete the transformation, but I got it some tropical plants today by way of encouragement. New leather tub chair is most excellently comfy for watching TV, and sizeable enough to sit cross-legged with a blanket tucked around my feet. Am surprised/amused that it looked so tiny in the store (amongst twelve-foot ceilings and a jillion overstuffed upholstered pieces), but is Definitely A Presence in my living room. Decorating trends = WHUT?

Sorry, but since when do skirted dining chairs, fabric window cornices, and slipcovers on EVERYTHING say "youthful and current"? Froufy skirts on furniture are the epitome of old lady decorating, with a side of 1990s "shabby chic." And one slipcovered piece might be okay, but everything?? So I went to Braums around 9:30 last night. They were out of iced tea, so I got Diet Dr. Pepper. And then got a refill. Which conspired with yesterday's evening nap to keep me WIDE AWAKE all night. Woo.

Well, ordered another couch! I hope it works out better this time! Of course the off-white velvet as pictured is a special order, so I won't get it for a while... they said 8-10 weeks, so probably sometime in December. It would have been nice to have a proper couch before having guests over Halloween, but better to spend a weekend with the futon in ( Read more... )

Discovered something a bit odd today. The wines I like enough to buy again tend to be aromatic and floral whites - mainly Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Muscat, though I don't mind the occasional Pinot gris.
