Discovered something a bit odd today. The wines I like enough to buy again tend to be aromatic and floral whites - mainly Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Muscat, though I don't mind the occasional Pinot gris. Well, apparently those four varieties, along with the other Pinots, are THE grapes/wines of the Alsace region. Funny that. Have to admit, though, that for the most part I prefer the fruitier and sweeter character of their New World interpretations.

Am feeling that I should branch out a bit... Chenin blanc/Vouvray, Viognier, Albariño, and maybe Grenache sound interesting to explore, but I have no idea where to start. At least with the first four, there's enough selection at a fairly low price point that I could experiment without much risk! (Snoqualmie Winemaker's Select Riesling has become my go-to wine. A good medium Riesling pairs well with almost anything and is lovely to sip on its own, and I don't know that you'd find a better wine for under $8! :) Still waiting for the right occasion to splurge on a bottle of the 2007 Chateau Ste Michelle Eroica....)

P.S. Oh, and I just ordered this sofa! I spent HOURS UPON HOURS last year looking for the perfect couch, found this, and have been eyeing it covetously ever since. Yesterday the Wonderful Dad-Person decided that a couch would be a good combination birthday/Christmas present, and, well, I didn't argue too hard. ;) So yay! Will have lovely new couch, plus the futon gets to stay in the office, which means that when Mom-Person and Sister-Person come to visit, nobody has to sleep in the living room. Thank you, Wonderful Dad-Person!
