Random Thoughts are Random

World building is hard, man, or maybe I just ask 'Why?' too often and get stuck in a loop of how to make things work in my imaginary world and so I delay a little longer the anticipated failure of writing original fiction.

I did not grow up in the same Cold War culture that my sisters and mother did. I grew up instead reading Cold War novels and with the sure and certain knowledge that the Soviets thought the same way we did, just in a different language. I grew up with an equal sure certainty that other cultures on the planet did not and they were much more frightening to me. But I will tell you one thing, experiencing an earthquake for the first (and dear gods I hope last) time, I was checking the windows for mushroom clouds, choked with a feeling of betrayal that my conviction that I would never see a nuclear strike in my lifetime had been wrong and wondering who my government had pissed off now.
